What it requires
Article 17 applies the general principles of the accreditation and market surveillance regulation to this Directive's CE marking. Those principles include that CE marking is the visible expression that a product meets the applicable Union harmonisation legislation, that it is the only marking of that kind, and that member states must ensure the regime is applied correctly.
The article adds no separate procedure of its own. It connects the accessibility marking to the same rules that govern CE marking across Union product law, which is why a single mark can serve several acts where the obligations overlap.
In practice
The safest reading is that the mark belongs to the declaration. If the declaration does not name this Directive, the mark cannot be presented as covering accessibility. When several Union acts apply, use the combined declaration route in Article 16(3) and list each act with its publication reference.
What to do
- Apply the Regulation 765/2008 principles to every CE mark you affix.
- Treat the mark as a claim of conformity, not a decorative logo.
- Remove or correct a mark that is not supported by the file.
Evidence to keep
- The CE marking artwork and the conformity file behind it.
- The declaration that supports the mark.
- Any other Union act whose mark is combined with this one.
Dates
- 2025-06-28The marking rules apply as products are placed from this date. (Article 31(2))

Where teams get this wrong
A team can inherit a CE mark from a supplier and assume it covers accessibility. The mark covers the acts named in the declaration, so the declaration has to name this Directive.
